Local Martial Arts Studio Helps Combat Summer Crime

Minneapolis, MN—Warmer weather in Minnesota encourages outdoor fun but can encourage a seedier element of crime as it provides opportunity not available in the cold winter months. The recent sexual assaults at the University of Minnesota, burglaries in south Minneapolis, and metro-area bank robberies are harbingers of more to come. When people arm themselves with knowledge and instruction, they can feel and be safer. The Minnesota Kali Group, a local Martial Arts studio, gives tips on staying safe, and offers unique classes in self-defense.

The Minnesota Kali Group’s founder Rick Faye is an expert on self-defense and martial arts. He is an internationally renowned and sought-after teacher, trainer, and expert on many types of martial arts. He trains federal and local law enforcement officers and is one of the foremost authorities in the world of self-defense.

Faye’s training philosophy on self-defense is simplicity. “Disarming an attacker is always a frightening prospect. With some basic techniques and practice, every woman can defend herself.”

With accreditations in numerous styles of martial arts, the differentiating teaching style that Faye offers is a culmination of the best practices of all the arts, which create a self-defense style that is the most effective in warding off an attack (the origin of this practice was pioneered by martial arts legend, Bruce Lee).

Tim Hanks of Minneapolis SWAT revealed, “Edge weapon defense is a valuable part of my job. It not only saves lives but helps officers stay calm under pressure. There is no one better than Rick Faye and the Minneapolis Kali Group for self defense training of any kind.”

Faye offers these helpful tips:

5 Basics to Staying Strong

q Be fit and healthy: you’re a less attractive target if you look like you’ll run or fight

2. BE STRONG: Learn self defense from a reputable instructor. Practice what you learn.

3. THINK STRONG: Train your mind ahead of time:
q
Set your boundaries.
q
Affirm (daily) the value of your person, your space and your intuition.

4. TALK STRONG: Avoid bad situations. Verbally assert yourself. Fight. Continue to fight until you can leave.
