Why:                Fundraising event founded initially to raise money for the Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T) Children’s Project, a disease that manifests itself as a combination of Cystic Fibrosis, Cerebral Palsy, immune deficiencies, and Muscular Dystrophy.

 

Over the years, the scope of causes/organizations that receive grants from this non-profit has expanded to include: Second Harvest & Channel One Food Banks, Boys & Girls Club, Majestic Hills Therapeutic Horse Ranch, Cystic Fibrosis of MN, and Toys for Tots.

 

                       Over the past 12 years, this annual fundraiser has been the driving event that has helped the foundation gift over $1.2 million. This year’s event goal is to raise $200,000.

The Ramada Plaza Minneapolis names Sterling Cross Communications as their PR & Social Media Agency of Record
 
Minneapolis, MN – Paul Durand, General Manager of the Ramada Plaza Minneapolis, and part of its ownership group today announced that Sterling Cross Communications is their PR and social media agency of record. The hotel recently acquired by Scalzo Hospitality Inc. is putting the finishing touches on a three million dollar remodeling and renovation of the entire property inside and out. 
 
The new additions, design, and amenities have transformed the property into a state of the art venue targeted for business and family travel. Its prime location near both the new Target Field and TCF Bank Stadium will make it an ideal travel destination.  Sterling Cross Communications has been brought on board to market the property via social media and online channels, and to generate awareness through public relations. 
 
“Sterling Cross has demonstrated they are on the leading edge of marketing for Hotels and Restaurants on a local and national scale,” Says Durand. He continued; “We have several new partnerships with the Minnesota Twins and other Minneapolis Sports Teams, and Sterling Cross will help us leverage and generate awareness of these partnerships. When my family (Scalzo Hospitality Inc) first was made aware of this property, we were excited to find such a location and to be able to return it to its former status.”
 
The last piece of the remodel is going to be The Northern Point Restaurant. As The Anchorage, it was once a destination for its famed brunches. Durand hopes to remake a name for the Restaurant and is about to announce their new concept and menus.

Katha Dance Theatre, the Twin Cities premier Kathak dance organization, has collaborated with Robert Robinson Music to create and present an original work entitled ‘Soul to Sole’. With live music this one-of-a-kind performance will blend gospel music, spoken words and classical North Indian dance using a variety of local artists.

This innovative cross-cultural collaborative will include devotional soulful dance and music, dynamic percussive rhythmic footwork compositions and often to narrate thought-provoking poems. There will be powerful dancing, rousing songs, intricate rhythm works and heart wrenching poems.
 
The creative force includes choreographer dancer Rita Mustaphi and Gospel singer Robert Robinson. Robert is bringing in the mix drum artist Timothy Berry, pianist Joseph Samuel Reeves and spoken word artist Brittany Delaney. Katha Dance Company and singers from Twin Cities Gospel Choir will also perform in this production.

While some things have changed in the neighborhood, The Herkimer has stayed true to its original concept. As a brewer, Richardson had an affinity for German style Lagers, and has handcrafted the offerings on tap (quite a few of which are award winning). The Herkimer has a come-as-you-are attitude and is welcoming to everyone, including Green Bay Packer fans. The Herkimer is known as “The Packer Bar” in Minneapolis and annually hosts a tent party on the night the local Vikings travel to Green Bay to play.
 
The menu has had two classics survive all ten years as well: The Herkiburger and the Puerco Sandwich. Although it is fan favorites like the mini-burgers and award-winning sweet potato French fries that keeps fans coming back. The shuffleboard games and the new “Boggle Breakfast” (soon to become a fulltime offering) are crowd-pleasers.

<![CDATA[Baja Sol Launches Fourth Restaurant Concept: Baja Joes Burgers, Tacos, & Beer]]> Columbus, Ohio Location to give-away free Joe Burgers for a year to the first 100 customers at Grand Opening September 7th, 2009

Inver Grove Heights, MN – Baja Sol Restaurant Group announced today that they will debut their fourth concept, Baja Joe’s Burger’s, Tacos, & Beer on September 7th, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Columbus, Ohio.  A completely different direction from their Baja Sol Fresh Mexican concepts, Baja Joe’s is a modern take on a roadside burger shack featuring classic American beach fare favored by California surfers: burgers, tacos, & beer. The first location to open will be at 1200 Noe-Bixby Rd. Columbus, OH 43213.

Baja Joe’s will motivate the cheeseburger purists in the Columbus area to arrive at the doors early as they are offering free Joe’s Burgers for a year to the first 100 customers. The motivated customers will receive coupons good for a 52 free Joe Burger (one per week for a year), to reward their opening day support. Ten more winners will be awarded the free burgers via online contests.

Baja Sol is teaming up with another American classic in establishing the menu and beverage selection for Baja Joe’s, the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company. The menu features many appetizers fried in a Schlitz beer batter – onion rings, brat bites, cheese curds, and chicken tenders. Other highlights of the menu are Cheese Burgers and street tacos made with slow cooked Barbacoa, Carnitas, or Chicken Tinga. They offer a simple twist to dessert – candy bars served up frozen upon request.

The concept is an expansion of the chain’s Baja Sol Beachfront Grill, a quick service burger location. The restaurants will have full bars, featuring several beers on tap and over 30 choices available in cans. Baja Joe’s Burgers, Tacos & Beer restaurants will be between 4,000 and 9,000 square feet. The decor will feature salvaged wood, used furniture and recycled equipment, as well as pool tables, dart machines and jukeboxes. “It’s going to be really fun and laid back,” said Baja Sol President, Bridget Sutton. She continued; “people in this economy are still looking to get back to basics, and comfort food. We wanted to bring back a classic.” The new concept will be grown through corporate and franchise locations.

The Columbus location will be the first of three Baja Joe’s Restaurants planned to open in the next six months. Other locations will include Illinois (Chicago area) and Minnesota (Minneapolis area). In light of the current economic conditions, Baja Sol Restaurants have been bucking the trend. “Even though other concepts have been struggling in this economy, Baja Sol remains strong and continues to grow,” said Baja Sol president Bridget Sutton. She continued; “Baja Sol’s sales increases have outpaced the industry every year for the last three years, and the chain has more than doubled in size during that same period.”
 
The chain has current locations in Minnesota, Illinois and Ohio. Sutton explains their intentions for Wisconsin; “expanding into Wisconsin now is a natural extension of our growth. Eau Claire, Madison, the Dells, La Crosse, and of course Milwaukee are excellent areas that are good fits for Baja Sol’s concepts.” Sutton cites several factors for their success: the increasing availability of good real estate, more reasonable leasing and construction costs, the continuing growth of Latin food, and Baja Sol Restaurants’ brand diversification. Baja Sol owns four concepts under two brand names:
 
Baja Sol Cantina, a full service restaurant offering modern Mexican and Pan Latin fare featuring
Baja Sol’s famous Free Chips and Salsa Bar;
Baja Sol Tortilla Grill, a smaller, fast casual version of the Cantina;
Baja Joe’s Burgers, Tacos & Beer, a full service concept with a beach shack theme offering low
price points in a very casual dining atmosphere with pool, darts and games;
