    House of Charity – Proceeds from mug sales directly benefits this nonprofit whose mission is to feed those in need, house those experiencing homelessness, and empower individuals to achieve independence.

    Minneapolis, MN – Mary Kumar, Owner of Geetanjoli Sari Fashion, announced today that Friday, October 28th, 2011, will launch the grand opening of India Home Décor and Gifts by Geetanjoli.  An expansion of their sari fashion store located across the mall hallway, they remain located on the second floor of Calhoun Square
     
    This store will offer authentic handmade chairs, rugs, pillows, fire screens, frames, custom curtains and a wide variety of trunks, cabinets and screen dividers to accent and dress homes with Indian flair. A wide range of books and CDs on culture, health and spiritual knowledge will also be offered.
     
    “Everything we sell will provide its owner a small slice of joy. We offer colorful and exotic products to add ambiance to the home,” said Kumar.  “The Uptown neighborhood has a great appreciation of diverse culture.  Our goal is to let everyone take a little piece of India home.  We want shoppers to feel like a kid in a candy store so we’ve assembled a wide range of home goods to provide something for everyone,” concluded Kumar.
     
    A grand opening celebration will take place at the store beginning at 5:30 pm.  Traditional North Indian dancers and musician will perform throughout the night.

    Minneapolis, MN – Vanessa Hart Englund, Owner of Hart & Soul Herbal announced today that Saturday, October 29th, 2011 is the grand opening of her new store location.  Located on the first floor of Calhoun Square, Hart & Soul will begin as a kiosk located near the Hennepin and Lake entrance and will move to a permanent store location within Calhoun Square in the future.  Historically Hart & Soul has operated out of various farmers’ markets and other local venues in the northern suburbs. This will be its first permanent site.
     
    Hart & Soul creates and produces organic skin care, hydrotherapy and aromatherapy products.  With a core philosophy of drawing on the home remedies passed down from generation to generation, their goal is to create a non-toxic bathroom cabinet.  They create organic, vegan,kosher, gluten free and sustainable products.  None of the products contains syntheticfragrance or dye, and are also free of propyls, petroleum, lauryls, laureths, phthalates & parabens.

    LARGEST SINGLE HALF MARATHON PRIZE IN US HISTORY ANNOUNCED
    $100,000 Awarded To Winner of Any 13.1® Marathon Series Race Who Breaks The World Half Marathon Record

    MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 2011 US Road Sports & Entertainment Group (USRS) announced the largest single half marathon prize in U.S. history.  USRS will award $100,000 to the winner of any 13.1Marathon® Series race whose winning time breaks the World Half Marathon Record.  Additionally, USRS will award $50,000 to any U.S. citizen who wins any 13.1Marathon® Series race and whose winning time breaks the U.S. Half Marathon Record. 

    The current half marathon record holders in each category are: 
    • Men’s World – Zersenay Tadese (58:23)
    • Men’s U.S. – Ryan Hall (59:43)
    • Women’s World – Lornah Kiplagat (1:06:25)
    • Women’s U.S. – Deena Kastor (1:07:34)
    “I challenge every runner in the world to break the World Half Marathon Record at one of US Road Sports’ 13.1® Marathon Series races.  There is nothing I would enjoy more than handing a $100,000 check to an athlete at one of our races.  Bring on the competition,” says US Road Sports & Entertainment Group’s CEO, Steve Obert.
    What:           Half Marathon and 5K
    When:           August 21, 2011 Race starts at 7:13 AM.  All runners/walkers must finish in 3 ½ hours.  Runners can register up until day of the race.
    Who:            Runners - Parent or guardian of all participants under the age of 14 will be required to sign an additional waiver at packet pick-up.
    Prize:            Half Marathon: Overall Male: 1st - $13,100; 2nd - $1,000, 3rd - $500
                                                      Overall Female: 1st - $13,100; 2nd - $1,000, 3rd - $500
     
    5K: The top 10 finishers that beat the bear (a college kid from Edina in full bear gear/see photo below) that is racing will receive a new pair of Karhu shoes and a ‘I beat the bear’ shirt.
     
    Why:             Scenic route also serves as fundraiser for Team WorldVision.  Last year’s inaugural 13.1® Minneapolis took more than 2,500 runners and walkers on a course filled with festivities, beautiful scenery and live entertainment.  Kicking off near St. Anthony Main and ending at Nokomis Park they raised over $180,000 last year.
     
    This year their charity focus (teamed again with non-profit WorldVision) focuses on feeding the famine stricken on the horn of Africa.  Their goal is to raise $250,000 this year.  $50 supplies one person with clean water for life! 
     
    Cost:              Entry fees August 1-14 are $85.00 for the half marathon and $25.00 for the Karhu 5K.During race week, participants can sign up for the half marathon for $95.00 and $30.00 for the Karhu 5K.
